Skinny Limits Juice Cleanse Review

Skinny Limits Juice Cleanse Review

During one of the many sub-zero winter freezes this past January in NYC, I tried out a new 3-day juice cleanse. Lol, am I crazy or what? I mean, typically people leave juice cleanses to the hot summers when we’re all craving lots of cold liquids, but at the end of the day, I’m a Florida girl, and I’m always down for cold beverages. Plus, in my opinion, winter is a great time to flood your system with fresh fruits and vegetables, keeping your immune system strong and your skin looking glowy and hydrated.

Skinny Limits is an up-and-coming fresh juice company based out of Austin, Texas. I tried out a “Variety Juice Cleanse” for 3 days and had the juices shipped directly to my office (they ship all over the US). Unlike many juice companies, Skinny Limits proudly serves 100% raw juices using absolutely no pasteurization or processing (they use a low speed commercial juice press), so you’re getting the best fresh juice and nutrition. Woohoo!

Overall Review
I honestly felt better on this cleanse than I have during any other cleanse I’ve tried. I felt energetic and really only struggled with feeling hungry in the afternoons (about 2-4pm) when I usually eat snacks at my desk at work (mostly a habit thing). I powered through it and felt fantastic at night and in the mornings. I continued to do low impact exercise and teach fitness classes as I normally do, and didn’t experience any weakness or low energy. If anything, I felt like I had a bit more energy, especially in the evenings. Success!

I enjoyed drinking green and herbal teas whenever I was feeling cold in the office. This is fine to do throughout the cleanse.

I thought the juices were all yummy and all slightly sweet, so I think the Variety Cleanse is a great choice for someone who is new to juicing, especially if you’re scared of green juices. If you like fresh ginger, you’ll love this variety cleanse because 3 of the juices contained ginger! However, if you love your bitter green juices without sweet taste (I have a coworker like that), this may not be the one for you.

I loved the size and shape of the bottles, but the orange caps were a bit hard to get off when you first open them up. You have to pry off the lid with your fingers and I spilled a little a couple of times if I wasn’t being careful. For ease of use, it might be better for the company to switch to screw caps in the future.

The “Skinny” on the Juices
The Variety 3-day Juice Cleanse from Skinny Limits provides 6 fresh bottles of juices per day (I had a mixture of the following 7 different varieties). I included a few thoughts on each here:

  • Pure & Simple (Kale, Cucumber, Spinach, Apple, Parsley, Celery, Lemon) – This basic green juice was refreshing with the standout flavors of apple and lemon. I loved guzzling this one down first thing in the morning. Just slightly sweet and not bitter at all.
  • Balance (Kale, Cucumber, Spinach, Apple, Parsley, Celery, Lemon, Ginger) – This green juice was exactly the same as the Pure & Simple with added ginger for a nice spicy kick as it goes down.
  • Green Firefly (Kale, Cucumber, Spinach, Apple, Parsley, Celery, Lemon, Pineapple) – Again, this green juice is almost the same as the first two, but it’s the sweetest of the 3 with the addition of yummy pineapple. I would recommend this green juice to a beginner since pineapple is known for sweetening and masking the bitterness of greens.
  • Lotus (Beet, Carrot, Spinach, Apple, Lemon, Ginger) – Oh man, I loved this one. It was spicy, sweet, and rich. I would even call it dramatic! Just tons of flavor here. Beet was probably the strongest flavor coming through.
  • Scorpion Lemonade (Lemons, Agave Nectar, Cayenne, Filtered Water) – Many cleanses feature a spicy lemon juice. The cayenne in this one was pretty tame, so I might have made it a teeny bit spicier if I made it myself, but it’s probably just right for the majority of people. Not everyone’s a spicy lover like me! Still, it was delicious and a nice break juice in the middle of the day.
  • Triangle (Carrot, Apple, Ginger, Lemon) – Like the Lotus juice, I loved the mixture of spicy and sweet in this one. It was a tamer flavor profile, and very refreshing.
  • Crescent Moon (Raw cashews, Vanilla Bean, Cinnamon, Agave Nectar, Filtered Water) – I enjoyed this sweet “dessert” juice SO much at the end of each day! It was super comforting and tasted like a creamy, silky milkshake (though thin like a juice). I absolutely loved it, especially with the addition of cinnamon. Yum! I would drink this every night if I could.

Tips for Anyone Planning to Try a Juice Cleanse - I’m no expert, but I’ve done juice cleanses several times, and learned some lessons along the way:

  • Check in with your emotions. Cleanses, detoxes, and really anything outside of your normal routine is guaranteed to bring some “stuff” to the surface. Therefore, I would avoid cleansing if you’re going through any stressful emotional situation in your life. Wait to do it when you’re feeling happy, adventurous, and ready for a new challenge.
  • You’ll be using the bathroom a lot because you’re drinking a ton of liquids. I recommend planning in advance. I’m used to drinking a lot of liquids throughout my regular work day, so I scheduled my cleanse for the middle of my work week, and I always had the restroom nearby. Just plan in advance.
  • Listen to your body. If you’re feeling starving, eat some fruit or vegetables and hummus. It’s not a big deal. Skinny Limits even offers a cleanse that includes both juices and solid foods, so that’s a good option for a beginner if you don’t want to do strictly juices.
  • Instead of focusing on losing weight or depriving yourself, think about feeling good, loving the process, etc. It’s not realistic or healthy to try to lose weight in short periods of time. However, cleansing can be a great way to gain back energy, boost your immunity, and get a fresh restart on healthy habits.
  • Be positive. If you’re going to spend the time and money to do a cleanse, be happy about it and approach it with a positive attitude. I can’t express enough how important this piece is. If you think the process will be hard and that you’ll be starving and/or sick during a cleanse…then that’s probably exactly how you will feel. Your thoughts create your reality. Explain to your friends, family, and coworkers that you’re excited about going on this journey, and ask for their support. Gently steer them away from criticism!
  • It’s not for everyone! If it all sounds terrible or too restrictive to you, then don’t do it. I love food and don’t believe in harsh diets, but to me, occasionally juicing can be a good way to gain back some energy and flush my system with fresh nutrition. That’s just my personal opinion, so please do what’s best for you!
